The Rhode Island Trial Lawyers Association was founded in 1970 by a small group of trial lawyers. They would meet monthly for a legal education program and network with other trial lawyers working on behalf of Rhode Island consumers.  RITLA was registered as a non-business corporation in 1981.

Over the years RITLA has grown into a statewide organization with over 450 members.  The Association Mission is to preserve the constitutional right to trial by jury; strengthen the civil justice system through training and education; champion the cause of those who deserve redress for injury to person, property or civil rights; and foster the disclosure of information critical to public health and safety.

RITLA conducts legal education seminars, offers online networking forums, compiles research, facilitates the sharing of resources and implements public affairs and well as government relations programs.
