Summary

Case: Balanicheva v. SMG - PC-2016-3137
On May 4, 2014, eight performers in the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus fell approximately twenty-five (25) feet to the ground at the Dunkin Donuts Center. A one-thousand pound metal apparatus fell on top of them. Plaintiffs filed claims in the State of Rhode Island and the State of California. The claims in California were products liability claims against the manufacturers of the carabiner clip that failed on the date of this incident. The claims in Rhode Island were based in negligence, premises liability and promotional liability. These claims were filed against the owners and operators of the Dunkin Donuts Center. After five and a half years of litigation the case resolved for $52,500,000.00.
